Today I Learned that the easiest way to get an em dash (β) is with a Composer Key. To set it up, go to Settings > Keyboard > Special Character Entry > Compose Key, enable it, and pick a key.
Be aware that this key will lose its original function. I use Caps Lock, but I previously tried Right Ctrl, which I had to switch from because I use it for terminal shortcuts like Ctrl+U.
Now to get em dash (β) just press your Compose Key once and then press 3 times the - key, that it will automatically be converted to β.
